Why Bangkok Som Tum Can't Touch the Real Deal in Isaan
Fifteen years cooking, dozens of papaya salads pounded across Bangkok. Then I sat on a plastic stool in Udon Thani and realised I'd been eating a polite imitation.

Real answers from a real food lover
Do you accept free meals or invitations?
Never. I pay for every meal myself and visit anonymously like any regular customer. This keeps my reviews 100% independent.
What makes your reviews different?
Real Chef. Real Reviews. No Ads. I analyze the craft and execution behind the food, not the marketing or aesthetics.
Where is the best street food in Thailand right now?
Yaowarat in Bangkok and the Udon Thani night markets are still my favorites. The energy and flavors are hard to beat.
How do I order food if I don't speak Thai?
Say "Mai Phed" for not spicy and "Mai Sai Nam Tan" for no sugar. Pointing at pictures or using translation apps works great too.
Is Thai street food safe to eat?
Yes — when you choose busy stalls with high turnover. Freshly cooked food in front of you is usually the safest option. I only recommend places I've personally eaten at.
Know a hidden gem?
If you've discovered a quiet stall, a passionate vendor, or an under-the-radar dish, send it my way. I'll visit anonymously, pay full price, and give it an honest review.
